PERMISSION TO REST FROM LOVE
(Wait, did you say rest FROM love?! Yeah, I did. Not as in taking a rest or break from love…because that’s just silliness.)
Today, we’re working on growing your root of rest. A root that grows so deeply into the streams of Living Water that will never run dry. A root so healthy that it can sustain even the most weary of souls. A root so intertwined with Jesus that His love just overflows through you.
A root so stubborn that it refuses to be uprooted by any harsh conditions that you face. A root so persistent that it grows around hardship. A root so stealthy that it grows wildly without you even realizing it.
Until, you’re resting. Even when you’re busy. Even when you’re rushing from here to there and back again. Even when you’re unsettled, unsure, or insecure. Even when you’re weary. Somehow you’re resting. In the peace of Christ.
Is such a thing even possible?! Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?
It’s not. God promises that He’ll work with you on this very thing. And in this week’s Megaphone Podcast episode, we talk all about this, and we use both the Deeply-Rooted 12-Day Devotional (do you have yours yet?!?!) and an amazing quote from pastor and author Kris Vallotton. It reads:
“Revival rest is operating out of a sense of worthiness and well-being because of what Christ already purchased for us on the cross. Revival rest looks like working from love, rather than for love. Working from acceptance rather than for acceptance. Working from approval rather than for approval. Working from identity rather than for a destiny.”
Sounds restful already, doesn’t it?
So today, I want to give you permission to show up in your life FROM a place of love. With nothing to prove and no one to please because you’re firmly rooted in how loved you are by your Creator. Your Heavenly Father. The One who sent His Son to die for the opportunity to give you freedom, and for that Son to then gift His Spirit to remind you of who you are and Whose you are.
You’re loved. Loved. Open to any page in the Bible, blindly point, and you’ll likely have landed on a verse or story that conveys this exact message. Want another boost? I’ve been learning about this concept in The Divine Dance by Richard Rohr. And it makes sense to me, even though it blows my freaking mind. When God looks at YOU, He sees Himself. Stands to reason, doesn’t it?! That because you were made in God’s image, that you would be a reflection of Him, even when He looks at YOU.
Someone that loved, who carries the very nature and beauty of the Creator has absolutely no one to please. Absolutely no reason to show up in relationships striving for perfection-serving-helping-proving-achieving-fill-in-the-blank in order to gain love. You’re already loved.
How restful does that sound?! I mean, I’m working on this, have been for a couple years, actually. And slowly, but surely, it’s changing my life. I show up differently, with a holy confidence. Less worried about what others are thinking of me and how I can love them so that they love me. Now, when I’m at my best, I show up ready to love because I can’t help it. Because God’s love just flows out of me and I just get to be in the room. Amen and all the hallelujahs!
Dig into the Bible, friend. Dig into the Deeply-Rooted Devotional, and dig into the Megaphone Podcast Deeply-Rooted series. It’s good. And it’s for you. And for your freedom to rest…
Love you friend!
xoxo,
Lisa
P.S. Have you signed up for Fight Club Summer Session yet?! That’s *another opportunity to fight for yourself instead of coasting. To join with other women from around the country who will be targeting just one thing that’s getting in the way of who they are becoming and running towards freedom. It’s only $10 to join, and an extra $29 if you want your very own Accountability Coach. You’re worth fighting for. If you believe that too, make sure you’re in Fight Club Summer Session when it starts on June 14th, 2021. It’ll be the most intentional 6 weeks of summer you’ll ever have! Until we do it again next summer, of course!
