permission to rest from acceptance…

Hey lady,

How are you? I hope you’ve been enjoying this Deeply-Rooted Podcast / Blog series. We’re only a few weeks in and I can tell you that the more conversations and contemplation I have around these topics, the more I’m challenged, convicted, and sometimes just plain stunned at the things that come out of my mouth.

I’m talking about this Megaphone Podcast episode. It’s…good.

As we’re becoming deeply-rooted women, becoming more and more the women He created us to be, growing the root of rest is so important – not just to sustain us, but also to free us.

The Bible tells us to throw off everything that’s holding us back, including working for the approval of others.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:1-3

Fix your eyes on Jesus so that you will not grow weary and lose heart, and so that you can get into the proper rhythm of rest. You’re already accepted in the heavenly realms and you’re not promised acceptance here on earth – in fact, you’re warned against it on more than one occasion. So stop wearing yourself out looking for acceptance. Instead, show up in all of your relationships secure in Jesus, the source of your full acceptance and the peace that that truth brings.

Easier said than done. You know that. We LIVE that. Because we care what other people think (this is coming from long-time people-pleaser, ummm, me.) Showing up in this crowd and that crowd, “performing” for the acceptance of others is kind of what we do. It’s so natural, but too exhausting to maintain. Not to mention empty.

Remembering, each and every single time that we want to fit in and impress others, we’re actually working against our root of rest. Working against how we were created – fully-accepted, fully-loved, fully-gifted, fully-ourselves-with-nothing-to-prove. You, my friend, are created to be you. Not anyone else. The best version of yourself is your Child-of-God self. The woman you are, not the woman anyone else expects you to be.

Ask yourself this: Who are you reaching for approval from, and what would it look like for, next time, to walk into that relationship with the mindset that you have nothing to prove and no one to please? How would your interactions (ahem, entire life) change if you believed the truth that you are fully accepted by your Heavenly Father?

Sit with that today. Listen or watch this Megaphone Podcast episode. Make sure you’ve gotten your Deeply-Rooted Devotional (hard copy or digital download.) Sign up for Fight Club Summer Session for only $10 to ignite your fight. Email me if you have any questions on any of the above.

You are so loved, friend!
