permission to respond to god’s commands

And permission, please, to skip a few blog posts!

Oh my gosh! In the whirlwind of summer and family in town and holiday weekends and babysitters gone and back and all of the commotion that this glorious season brings, I have just completely dropped the ball on writing the blog post that corresponds to the last Megaphone Podcast episode. I am so sorry. I’m sure your lives have been altered significantly in the absence of my words :)

Likely, I’ll come back to it, because I love writing and processing conversations through the written word. But for today, instead of beat myself up, I’m going to give you the link to the podcast conversation (main point: you may need to take a look at your true and intended roles and responsibilities within your relationships) and carry on with this week, where we’ll be rediscovering our time.

Tick tock, tick tock, goes every stinking clock. It’s our most precious commodity and our biggest area of waste. Maybe you’re in a season where you’re just letting it run out. Or wishing it away. Or holding onto it so tightly that it slips through your fingers anyway.

I have grown (a lot) in the past few years in this area. The birth of my daughter was actually the catalyst to start the intentional search for why I am on the planet (and what to do about it.) To be clear, I wasn’t really thinking about her during this introduction to intentionality. I was thinking about me. I was desperate to not be lost in motherhood, and so I did the work to secure my identity wholly and reject that my identity was confined to this one beautiful layer of who I am.

Let me be clear (again): I am not the master of this. I am not the master of time management. Not by a longshot. But I am learning the art of being intentionally present with my time. That’s thanks to God and His constant pursuit of me.

The Bible says to make the most of every opportunity. That sounds like a good place to start. So, are you? Making the most of every opportunity? Using your time intentionally and wisely -- choosing to deepen your roots, choosing light over dark, choosing freedom over captivity.

We can talk all day about the time-wasters. We know that we suck at putting our phones down sometimes. We know that hours can disappear into thin air while we binge Virgin River on Netflix. We know. You know. So what are you going to do about it?

My suggestion is this. Create.

In a culture where consumption is the norm, dare to create your moments. See, there’s a wide open space that forms when you say no to consumption. If left unfilled, consumption is going to take back its spot. Make a plan to create something beautiful in that space. Instead of a late-night binge, what about journaling? Instead of the snooze button x 7, what about coffee and good ole fashioned silence? Instead of scrolling on social, what about meal-planning? (I’m talking to myself here, if you didn’t notice.)

Create, dear dear dear friend. Because in the creation of your moments lies the creation of your future. And your future lived within God’s wild adventurous love for you — now that’s LIVING. That’s time well-spent.

Jen and I have this very conversation in this episode - our final in the root of rediscovery!

Watch, listen, share with a friend. Leave us a review. All the things.

xoxo,

Lisa
